3-Star vs 1-Star Balls
3-star balls meet professional competition standards — consistent diameter, roundness, and bounce. They're the only option for official tournaments. 1-star and 2-star balls are cheaper and great for casual play and multi-ball training drills where you go through large quantities.
Poly (Plastic) Balls vs Old Celluloid
Since 2015, all major competitions have used plastic poly balls instead of traditional celluloid. Poly balls are slightly harder, spin a little less on high-spin shots, and are more durable. If you've played for years with celluloid balls, poly balls may feel slightly different at first.
